  1. New

CanadaMortgageCalc.com launches as its own site

Our Canadian mortgage calculator moves from richscripts.com to its own home, with 11 calculators, five province pages and a new guides library.

  2. Rules checked

All 2026 rules re-checked against official sources

CMHC premiums (2.80% / 3.10% / 4.00%, +0.20% for 30 years), OSFI’s 5.25% minimum qualifying rate, CMHC GDS 39% / TDS 44%, Ontario and Toronto land transfer tax and B.C. property transfer tax were verified on the government pages linked on our rules page.

  3. New

New: renewal, penalty and prepayment calculators

See your new payment at renewal across a range of rates, estimate an IRD or three-months’-interest penalty, and measure what extra payments save.

  4. New

    New: cash-to-close and shareable scenarios

The main calculator now totals the cash you need at closing and creates a link to any scenario. Links never include income or debts.

  5. Rule change

Toronto raises municipal land transfer tax on homes over $3 million

New MLTT brackets of 4.40%, 5.45%, 6.50%, 7.55% and 8.60% apply above $3 million. Our Toronto and land transfer tax calculators use the new rates.

  6. Rule change

30-year insured mortgages for first-time buyers; insured cap raised to $1.5M

First-time buyers and buyers of new builds can take a 30-year amortization with less than 20% down (premium +0.20%), and homes up to $1.5 million can now be bought with under 20% down.

  7. Rule change

No stress test for straight switches at renewal

OSFI stopped requiring uninsured borrowers to re-qualify when they switch lenders at renewal without increasing the loan or amortization.

  8. Rule change

    B.C. first-time buyer exemption raised to $835,000

Full exemption up to $500,000, $8,000 off up to $835,000 and a partial exemption up to $860,000.
